During the summer season, lifeguard stations are located at the Oceanfront Complex, as well as at the northern and southern ends of the beach. For a different experience, visitors with four-wheel-drive vehicles can travel about two miles north of Corolla Light and drive directly onto the beach. Along the way, you may spot Carova’s well-known wild Colonial Spanish mustangs, descendants of horses brought by Spanish explorers in the late 1500s. No four-wheel drive? No problem—guided wild horse tours offer an unforgettable experience.

Remember, if you plan to park on the beach Currituck County ordinance requires a beach parking permit from from the second Saturday of May through the last Saturday in September.. The ordinance also requires drivers to reduce tire pressure to below 20 psi to help prevent getting stuck in the sand. When you return off the beach, reinflate your tires at the free compressed air tire pumps at Historic Corolla Park. Located on the west side of NC 12, enter through the main park entrance, turn right into the parking lot, and you will find the air stations at the far end near the picnic pavilion.
